[Movie] Next Time On… The Shrink Next Door season 1, episode 6 – “The Party”

The latest episode of The Shrink Next Door saw Ike’s manipulations of Marty become nastier and more obvious than ever, spurred on at least in part by the death of his father, a survivor of the war who was apparently a great man but not necessarily a great dad. The trauma of this, in a weird way, causes him to double-down on his exploitations of Marty, which will likely continue apace in The Shrink Next Door season 1, episode 6, titled, fittingly, “The Party”. But here’s what he got up to in “The Family Tree”:

[Movie] The Shrink Next Door

  • After hearing about his father’s death, Marty invites Ike, Bonnie, and the girls to stay with him at his house in the Hamptons, and Ike takes to the place.
  • After convincing Marty to renovate and becoming jealous of the party-hard neighbours, Ike begins trying to convince Marty to purchase the house next door.
  • The cherry tree in the garden, which Marty’s parents planted when they moved into the house, has great sentimental value for Marty. Naturally, Ike spends the whole episode convincing Marty to chop it down, eventually succeeding.
  • The end of the episode takes place a year later, with Marty having cut down the tree and purchased the house next door. Ike wants to throw a housewarming party.

The Shrink Next Door season 1, episode 6 release date

Predictions for “The Party”

With Ike having turned up the pace and intensity of his manipulations, things don’t bode well for Marty. Here are some predictions:

  • Ike is obviously going to start throwing lavish parties at Marty’s double-house in the Hamptons, and they’re pretty obviously going to be on Marty’s dime.
  • Will Marty start to push back? We saw him agonize over the decision with the tree. With Ike getting too attached to spending Marty’s money, how many more therapeutic justifications can he come up with?
  • Are we going to hear anything else from Phyllis? It seems a terrible waste of Kathryn Hahn to give her so little to do.
  • Bonnie is likely to recognise what Ike’s up to and express reservations about it, but will she care enough to give up the advantages that rinsing Marty provides?
