OPENING PRAYER: Father, teach me what your word can do. (Scroll down for RCCG YAYA Sunday School 6 November 2022 HYMN)

MEMORY VERSE: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” – 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

BIBLE PASSAGE: John 7:37-42 (KJV)

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.

41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?

42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

INTRODUCTION: The Bible is a collection of books used by Christians. As Christians, we believe that God speaks to men through His actions and words as they are written down in the Bible (Ps.68:11). The Bible is the written word of God. It has one author, God Himself. The Bible is ‘God-breathed’ (2 Timothy 3:16). The Human writers wrote exactly what God wanted them to write and the result is the perfect and holy word of God (Ps.12:6; 2 Peter 1:21). The word “Bible” comes from the Greek word “Biblia” which means “little books.” The Bible is actually a library of 66 books written by at least 40 different writers over a period of about 1600 years. The oldest book was written about 1500 B.C. or earlier. The last was written about A.D. 100. The Bible was originally written in the Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic languages.

LESSON OUTLINES

  1. THE SCRIPTURE IS FOR A PURPOSE
  2. THE SCRIPTURE IS SPECIFIC AND TIME-BOUND

1. THE SCRIPTURE IS FOR A PURPOSE

The word God sends is for a purpose: it is to meet needs. For instance, God sends His word:

  1. To instruct us (Joshua 1:8; Proverbs 1:10).
  2. To direct and show the way (Psalm 119:105).
  3. To save from sin and it’s consequences (Psalm 119:9, 11).
  4. To bless and deal with frustration, failures, etc. (Luke 5:4).
  5. To set us free from satanic bondages and self-indulgence (John 8:32, 36).
  6. To deliver from trouble, dangers, deaths, etc. (Psalm 107:20).
  7. To comfort and encourage us (Joshua 1:3, 5-6).
  8. To protect us (Psalm 91:11-12; Psalm 105:14-15).
  9. To heal physically, spiritually, and all-round (Psalm 107:20).
  10. To correct us (Proverbs 3:11-12; 2Timothy 3:16).

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: The students should mention instances of how the word of God came of God came to them directly while going through a particular phase in life.

2. THE SCRIPTURE IS SPECIFIC AND TIME-BOUND

A. God’s word instructs on what to do and how to do it (John 2:5-8).

B. The word of God came in a very specific manner to:

i. Peter (Luke 5:4),
ii. Joshua (Joshua 1:3),
iii. Jonah (Jonah 1:1-2),
iv. The disciples (Mark 16:15).

C. While some obeyed, others dis but with dire consequences (Jonah 1:3,12). God’s word must accomplish it’s purpose according to his plan (Matthew 5:18). The word sent also states when action is to be taken (Ecclesiastes 3:1-3). The purpose will be defeated if action is not taken at the right time (2Kings 5:9-14). Delay is dangerous (Hebrews 4:7). Jesus following suit and we must also follow in His step (John 9:4).

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: The students should state any personal instruction God gave them and how it was carried out.

CONCLUSION: The word is all-embracing. It will meet all your needs-physical, spiritual, social, economic, etc. Hearken and it shall be well with you.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Mention three purposes for which God sends His word.
  2. What do you understand by the word of God being specific?

CLOSING PRAYER: God, help me to pay more attention to your word all the time.

ASSIGNMENT: Write out five(5) of the numerous challenges of life and one scripture that addresses each of them. E.g. lack -Psalm 23:1 (2×5=10 Marks).
