TOPIC: Be Grateful [Open Heaven for Teens 22 October 2022]

MEMORISE: O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalms 107:1

READ: Psalms 100:1-5

  1. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
  2. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
  3. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
  4. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
  5. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Timothy 1:1-20, Jeremiah 5-6

MESSAGE:

One of the attitudes that God detests most is ingratitude. Sometimes, people take for granted the many blessings of God. For example, if you are complaining that you don’t have new shoes, have you considered that there are people who don’t have legs at all? There was a time I was unhappy. I thought God had not done anything that would make me thank Him. I began to list the things He hadn’t done for me in the course of the year. God then interrupted me by asking, How many times did you travel this year? I said Many times. He asked again, How many times did you have an accident? None, I responded. He went further, How many times did you sleep this year? I answered Every night. I quickly interrupted Him because I realised how ungrateful I had been.

Don’t wait until God does big things for you before you thank Him. Thank Him for the seemingly little things such as waking every morning.

ACTION POINT:

Spend some time to thank God for all the things He has done for you so far.

HYMN: When Upon Life’s Billows You Are Tempest-Tossed

1 When upon life’s billows
you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged,
thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings,
name them one by one,
And it will surprise you
what the Lord hath done.

CHORUS
Count your blessings,
name them one by one;
Count your blessings,
see what God hath done;
Count your blessings,
name them one by one;
Count your many blessings,
see what God hath done.

2 Are you ever burdened
with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy
you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings,
ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing
as the days go by.

3 When you look at others
with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised
you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings,
money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven,
nor your home on high.

4 So, amid the conflict,
whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged,
God is over all;
Count your many blessings,
angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you
to your journey’s end.
