TOPIC: A Good Mentor [Open Heaven for Teens 11 October 2022]

MEMORISE: I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. 1 John 2:14

READ: 1 John 2:12-14

  1. I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
  2. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
  3. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Colossians 3:1-25, Isaiah 45-47

MESSAGE:

Everyone needs a mentor. The importance of a mentor in someone’s life cannot be overemphasized because a mentor shines the torch on some dark spots in the journey of life. Due to experience and maturity, a mentor has answers to many hidden fears and questions of the mentee. Do you know that the problem with many leaders of today is the lack of a good mentor? A mentor is a guide. Timothy did well because he had a good mentor in Paul. Joshua led the Israelites to the Promised Land because he was under the mentorship of Moses. If you want to achieve great feats in life, you need a good mentor.

How do you know a good mentor? My child, as great as your wisdom may be, it will not help you to choose a good mentor, therefore, ask God. These days, there are so many wolves in sheep clothing; they preach, but their private lives are far from what they preach. They pretend to be servants of God, yet, they defile vulnerable girls and boys. Only God can lead you to those who serve and worship Him “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).

ACTION POINT

Ask God to direct you to a mentor who serves Him in spirit and in truth.

HYMN: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear;
    What a privilege to carry
    Ev’rything to God in prayer
Oh! what peace we often forfeit,
Oh! what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer.
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrow share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Saviour still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
