91 Shops Affected As Fire Razes Lagos Market

Traders at the popular fabric market in Oshodi, Lagos have started counting their losses after a fire incident broke in the market.

Naija News reports that no fewer than 91 shops were affected by the inferno, which started around 8pm and was put off on Friday morning.

The fire was contained following the combined efforts of emergency officials, including the State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and Lagos Fire Service.

 

Aside from the 91 shops lost to the inferno at the famous Cairo market, four Administrative offices and goods worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Speaking on the outbreak, LASEMA Director-General, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a preliminary report said an investigation has begun to unravel the cause of the incident after some explosive devices were found at the market.

He noted that upon arrival at the scene of the incident, some lock-up shops were on fire.

Oke-Osanyintolu, however, stated that no life was lost to the incident.
