The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, yesterday, joined in condemning the Federal Government’s moves to redesign the naira, stressing that the development would further worsen the nation’s economy.

Speaking in Kano when he unveiled his presidential campaign ahead of the 2023 general election, Sowore lamented that President Muhammadu Buhari was embarking on a naira redesign when Nigerians were battling with the negative impact of inflation.

“The country’s economy under this administration is simply based on trial and error. There is no place in the world where you have an industrial revolution without energy; no place where development thrives with security threats, not even in the economy where a government tries to redesign the naira.

“You want to redesign the naira where people are yearning for naira revaluation. Our plan for the economy will never be based on such policy misdirection. Is it that when you redesign the naira it will stop its dollar attack? Even after the announcement of the redesign was made, the naira has fallen further. It is like putting lipstick on the lip of a pig; it will not stop that pig from running in the mud,” Sowore noted.

The social activist told journalists that the choice of Kano to unveil the AAC presidential campaign was borne out of the city’s political consciousness.

He pledged to redefine the education system and rejuvenate the country’s economy. Sowore who questioned the promise of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to fight corruption and instill justice, declared that anti-corruption will top his administration’s agenda if voted to power in 2023.
