The governor of River State, Nyesom Wike has revealed that Atiku Abubakar visited his house in Abuja after the party’s presidential primary and suggested the removal of party chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

He made the revelation during a recent interview with BBC News.

During his conversation with Atiku, the PDP flagbearer suggested that Ayu should be removed as the chairman of the PDP.

When he asked why, Atiku told him that Ayu’s stay as the PDP chairman goes against the zoning tradition of their party.

He also revealed that he’s unhappy because Atiku didn’t come to him after changing his mind about Ayu’s removal as the PDP National Chairman.

He said;

“We went to my office in my house in Abuja, you know my anger or one of the things that made me angry, I discussed with you (Atiku), I respected you, you told me something, unknown to me, you were not sincere about it. There’s nothing wrong in leadership to say look, I don’t think this can work now, I prefer it.

Even the worst of it is that it came out from you voluntarily because when we sat down, he (Atiku) said look, he has to come to see me, I said fine no problem, he said well the primaries have come and gone, I said no problem I know you thought I would go to court, no I won’t go to court, I don’t want our party to die.

He said okay, he thinks that Ayu has to go, I said why, he said because it’s not the tradition that the chairman and the presidential candidate should come from the same zone…

“That was the only time Atiku came to see me after the primaries on Monday.”
