The world is becoming smaller each year, and it’s easy to believe that there are fewer new places to discover. But that’s not true. Adopting the philosophy of under tourism, we offer you to visit alternative places once we all can travel again, so you can think outside the box when it comes to tourism.

Explore the Pamir Highway, Tajikistan instead of Route 66

If during the lockdown you’ve been dreaming about a road trip destination off the beaten track, it’s difficult to find a more striking and adventurous place than the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan. The second-highest road in the world was built in the early 1930s. This highway runs through beautiful landscapes, over 4,000+ meter high mountains, and pristine lakes. However, this region is not only famous for its wild nature but also its history of a legendary scale – think Alexander the Great, Marco Polo, the Silk Road and so much more.

Unknown territory for tourism – only a few travelers visit this region which is bigger than Switzerland, and this, too, makes Pamirs one of the most inspiring destinations in the world for ecotourism as well as for cultural and community-centered tourism. So, once the COVID-19 pandemic is over, come to see its breathtaking beauty that can only be compared to the warm hospitality of the people who live here. A road trip in the Pamir Highway is certainly a unique experience, which can be truly unforgettable if you ride it by bicycle.

Visit a Carnival in Trinidad instead of Rio

Surely, the Carnival in Rio wins out thanks to the dramatic location; also, it is way bigger than Trinidad Carnival, but it doesn’t mean that here you’ll have a worse experience. Quite the opposite, actually: because it’s smaller, it is much easier to take part in this Carnival. Also, who is ready for crowded places after what has happened in 2020?

Instead of being a passive member of the audience, in Trinidad, you can become a part of the show during the Masquerade when the bands and their followers march.

When you pick who you’re going to march with, see if it is all-inclusive – maybe the price will include food and drinks for these two days, which is very convenient. Prices differ from £150 to above £800. Find a band you’d like to join, and paste their name into a search engine, this will let you get in touch with them directly. In order to prepare, learn how to wine, this just means gyrating your hips. Your costume will include the shorts/bikini, headpieces as well as leg/arm/wrist bands, and so on. You can enhance your revealing costume by wearing makeup, glitter, body paint, and so on.

Drink wine in Moldova instead of the Dordogne

When you think about which of Europe’s famous wine regions to go to next summer, you will probably be deciding between Burgundy,  Rioja, Bordeaux, or maybe Chianti, but not Moldova. But when it was a part of the Soviet state, it supplied about half of all the wine for the whole country. Moreover, it has centuries-old vineyards, unique sorts of grapes, and the two biggest wine cellars on the globe.

Even though the capital of Moldova, Chisinau can’t be called strikingly beautiful, it is a good base to travel to many vineyards, for example, Cricova winery and Castel Mimi. You can visit the country to see the National Wine Day celebration. When you are exploring the countryside, you will definitely get the most hospitable welcome. Lastly, if you actually do want to see what it’s like to be lost in time, go to see the Victory Day parade in Transnistria, which is a semi-autonomous region within Moldova. It hankers back to the Soviet period and there you’ll find the only bottle of wine which traveled to space and came back intact. In post-COVID-19 world, Moldova should be your go-to wine destination.

Go for a city break to Poznan instead of Paris

There’s little in common between the city of Poznan in Poland and the French capital, aside from the fact that both cities are steeped in history. But while Paris is flooded with tourists all-year-round, Poznan has been avoided by large-scale tourism.

This is a good thing if you want an excellent city break without huge crowds of people once we all can travel like before the pandemic. Stary Runek, the Old Market Square of Poznan, is an ideal spot for watching local life which has great little restaurants, where an unusual tradition of two goats is acted out at noon every day. The perfect time to visit this place is during the Malta Festival in June every year.

Conclusion

The world is very big and it’s full of true gems like the four places from this list. Explore less famous places as soon as it’s possible to travel again, you won’t regret it!
