Natalie was born in Berkshire, England, in a small town called Reading, to Gary Dormer (father) and his wife Claire Richards (mother) on 11 February 1982. She has two siblings, Mark and Samantha Dormer.

Her predecessors are Norwegian, Welsh, and Irish. She attended Reading Blue Coat School and later to Chiltern Edge Secondary School.
While at school, she took dance lessons at the Villanova School of Dancing. She says she was the ” expectant” of the family. Later, Natalie left to study history at the University of Cambridge. However, she did not get the A grade she needed on her A-level history exams. Having misread a question. Dormer chose to audition for drama schools and trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Natali Dormer gave birth to their daughter in January 2021. She revealed that she and her partner, David Oakes, gave birth to their first child during lockdown and are now parents.
