Michael Felger Career
Michael Felger began his journalism career at Boston University, and upon graduation in 1992, he got a job at The Boston Herald. He started as an intern there, and within a few years, Felger found himself on the frontlines as the lead reporter for the Boston Bruins from 1997 to 1999.
As he closed the chapter on his role as a Bruins reporter, he was gearing up for a new adventure. His bosses at Herald allowed him to be the New England Patriots beat columnist, a post he would hold from 1999 to 2008. His columns echoed through the hearts of Boston sports enthusiasts, winning him both praise and criticism. In 2006, he authored a book titled ‘Tales from the Patriots Sideline’ detailing the most entertaining stories from New England Patriots.
While reporting on the Patriots, Felger developed another interest. From 2005 to 2008, he hosted “The Mike Felger Show” on 890 ESPN.
2008 Michael left his radio show at the end of his contract. He moved on to write online columns and served as a fill-in host for Boston sports radio station WEEI. He continued to be a familiar face on television through his Comcast SportsNet New England work.
The year 2009 marked a new beginning for him. Alongside Tony Massarotti, he launched the “Felger and Mazz” show on 98.5FM The Sports Hub, quickly becoming a staple for Boston sports followers.
However, Felger’s career has been sprinkled with controversy. In 2011, he was at the center of a public feud with reporter Heidi Watney. He faced backlash when he commented inappropriately about Watney and Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek.
A few years later, in 2017, he stirred up another storm when he made derogatory comments about late MLB player Roy Halladay. This led to a 3-day suspension from NBC Sports Boston, prompting Felger to issue a public apology.
Despite the bumps along the road, Felger remains a prominent figure in on-air sports journalism in Boston sports. In 2018, he signed a new multi-year deal with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s parent company, Beasley Media Group.
On February 18, 2023, an incident involving Tony Massarotti, the host of “Felger and Mazz” alongside Michael, led to Massarotti’s suspension. He was suspended due to controversial comments he made concerning two individuals at a hotel in New Orleans. Here is a video of the comment.

Felger later revealed that Massarotti wouldn’t receive his pay for the rest of the week. He added that the whole team would be undergoing sensitivity training.
