Chelsea manager Graham Potter has confirmed that the injury suffered by Reece James in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth is ‘in the same area’ as his previous knee concern.

The wing-back was in brilliant form in his first game since suffering a knee injury in early October in Chelsea’s Champions League trip to AC Milan – a knee injury which meant he had to miss England’s 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign – causing the visitors a number of issues with his bombing runs forward.

After one half of football however, James indicated that he’d suffered a knock in the opening five minutes of the second half and was replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta shortly after receiving some treatment on the pitch.

Speaking after the 2-0 win to the press, Potter provided an update on James’ latest setback stating:

“No, not really [an update]. Too soon, but it’s in the same area so it’s a concern. We’ll see in the next 24 or 48 hours.

“It’s too soon at the moment. But the action to chop, he felt something there. We have to keep our fingers crossed at the moment. He’s disappointed. Of course he is. At the moment, we’re just hoping it’s not as bad and we keep our fingers crossed.”
