Erik ten Hag has provided an update on Man Utd potentially recalling Amad Diallo from his current loan at Sunderland.

Amad has been in exceptional form in the Championship this season, scoring six goals for Sunderland and propelling the Black Cats into surprising play-off contention.

Due to this form, the 20-year-old has been widely linked with a potential recall by Manchester United during the January window to add some much needed depth into the forward line.

When asked about the option to recall Amad early, Red Devils manager Ten Hag told the press:

“We consider everything. As long as it’s strengthening the squad.

“But at the same time, I have a little bit of a reservation for that because I don’t want to stop the process. He’s [making] really good progress there, so I’m happy with that.

“I know also, they need experiences, young players. When we decide [for him] to come back, he has to be a player who can be starting XI, compete for starting XI [at a] minimum, for a lot of games to come in and have an impact.”

The brilliant loan spell at Sunderland is exactly what Amad needed following a rather disappointing loan to Rangers during the second half of last season. The Ivorian struggled in the SPFL but has taken to life in the English second division well, with 90min’s resident Sunderland fan Michael Graham hailing Amad as ‘the best in the Championship’.

Leave him alone, he’s playing at a bigger better club.

Leave the lad where he is for the full season, see where the team is at with Sancho and Antony at the end of the PL season before bringing him back as he’ll only be sat on the bench. If he continues his form United will be in for an exciting time with Amad, Garnacho and hopefully Pellestri coming through.

If Sunderland get promoted I would say leave him there for next season aswell. He’s getting regular first team football and adapting to this country’s style of play. Wally really mismanaged this lad his ceiling is very high.

No point recalling him. He’s having the form of his life and should be allowed to flourish at Sunderland.

If he’s good enough we should bring him back in the summer for sure. Antony needs a kick up the backside and real competition

This should be your minimum expectation after spending 30M on a 18 year-old relatively unknown & where’s Pellistri who was bought for another 10M in the same window on high praise & recommendation of United cult hero Forlan. United have spent almost 250M on wingers in the last 3 seasons & still looking to bring in Felix. Whoever was or is leading the transfer business at united is a joke.

I’m afraid Amad, Pellestri and Hanibal has no future at United Ten would rather bring in a 50 million player because if he cost money he must be good like DVB

We’ve no winger shortage, another vintage player in the mould of Cavani, Henrik Larsson and Zlatan to fill a gap for a few months can work

He cost 40m absolutely no pressure on him? Other clubs don’t get afforded this though

The United youth system hasn’t produced a genuine talent since 1992. Hence the constant need to spend.
