Episode 4

Episode 4 of The Kardashians Season 2 starts with Kim returning to California after her fashion week appearance in Italy. Kim is at Kris’ house with Khloe where she tells their grandmother, MJ (Kris Jenner’s mother) about Pete Davidson, her new flame. They talk about how Pete was invited to go to outer space. Kris shares how Pete has a very likeable personality which is completely drama free. She tells Kim that Pete was easily able to get close to the family because of his funny quirky personality.

The episode then moves on to Kendall who is having lunch with her friend Fai. The two friends talk about expanding Kendall’s tequila business – 818. The model now is hoping to start flipping houses with Fai, who already knows something about the business. Kendall is excited about starting something new that she feels so passionately for is her dream come true.

Next, Kris and Corey are at the doctor’s office where Kris learns that she will need complete hip replacement surgery. Kris is worried about suddenly feeling a lot older than she is worried about her children being stressed about her. She then meets MJ, Khloe, and Kim at her house letting them know about the surgery.

Her two daughters reassure Kris stating that now is the right time for her to get the surgery. Khloe mentions that their grandmother MJ is still alive despite having cancer multiple times and hopes that her mother finds some courage regarding the surgery. Kim states that she is emotional to see her mother be so worried about getting older.

MJ tells Kris that she should not worry about getting older. They discuss how Kourtney finally getting married after all these years is what has Kris this overwhelmed. Next, Kendall and Fai are looking at houses for them to purchase and flip. She mentions that she wants to do something different in her life other than being a model. Kendall states that she wants to be her own boss and decides that she should start with something smaller for now.

The episode then moves on to the day when Martha Stewart visits Kris. Kris states that she wants to gift Khloe a peacock as a housewarming present. Since Martha has many peacocks of her own, Kris wants Martha to talk to Khloe about what it’s like having a big bird. Khloe is shocked when she sees Martha and is appalled to learn that Kris plans to gift her a peacock.

Khloe mentions that she actually wants her daughter, True to get used to having at least a dog at home instead of getting something as big as a peacock. After lunch, Martha, Khloe and Kris take pictures to commemorate their get-together.

Following this, the episode moves on to the infamous Variety interview where Kim, Khloe, Kris and Kourtney talk about what its like being women in business. Kim’s ‘best advice for Women in Business’ is ‘Get your f*cking ass up and work’. She mentions that success is never easy and she particularly has never had it easy coming from where she has.

Kris wonders why the narrative about her daughters having no talent is being blown out of proportion. She states that the family, together runs multiple businesses and that is what should be considered to be their talent.

Next, Kris and Khloe are taking a trip to see Martha Stewart’s peacocks. After having a not-so-fun time with the peacocks, the duo come to the conclusion that Khloe is not presently ready to as a peacock owner. Kris mentions that Kourtney will soon be getting married which is something she is looking forward to outside of her hip replacement surgery.

Kendall visits Scott Disick (Kourtney’s ex-boyfriend and baby-daddy) who makes his first appearance on the show this season. Scott gives Kendall some advice about house-flipping and the two catch up on these projects that they are both equally passionate about. The two discuss Pete Davidson’s trip to space and state how it is too overwhelming for them.

Kim and Khloe are in a car when Kris calls them to discuss the backlash over the Variety interview. The mother of six tells Kim that she is being misunderstood. Kim formally apologizes to viewers on the show, mentioning why she said the things that she did. She states that her statement was misunderstood and wishes to make a statement addressing it.

Kim asks Khloe when all this drama would end and Khloe states that it won’t end until they end. Khloe and Kim are having dinner with Kendall. They discuss how Pete’s space trip was cancelled because of scheduling conflicts. Kim talks to Kendall about the interview with Variety and explains her reasons behind saying what she did.

Khloe states that Kim would have been attacked no matter what she would have said during the interview. Kim tells her sisters that no one is aware of their origins other than the family themselves. She states that people see them as the rich family now but it was Kris’ hustle that made them who they are.

In the final moments of the episode, Kim takes Kris to get her surgery. Kris is grateful for Kim being there for her. Kim wishes her mother all the best as the doctors take her in for her hip replacement surgery.

The Episode Review

The reality show is great but it feels like Hulu’s ‘The Kardashians’ is rather tame in comparison to the drama fans are used to from E Network’s ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’. With all five sisters being producers of the Hulu Original, it feels like everything seen on the show is an attempt to paint the women in the best light possible.

It is true that they have worked hard to get where they are and Kim’s comment about Women in Business was extremely controversial, but there is no denying the fact that they still have privilege, one that they are ignorant about in the present time. With Kim explaining how her mother, Kris was hustling all through her 50s to give them the life they are living now, there is no lie that Kim got dealt a far better hand in life than most women in the world.

It’s great that Kendall is finally finding her groove and wants to start new businesses other than being a full-time model. Will this be the end of her modelling career? Kourtney and Kylie on the other hand were missing from almost all of this episode. Khloe is doing a good job keeping her personal life at bay from the show.

However, with all that being said, the show really lacks drama, one that fans are very used to. The Kardashians is an attempt at making viewers sympathize with the family and painting them in the best light possible in contrast to what is unfiltered and presented on the internet without any sugarcoating.
