According to Deadline, The Crown breakout Emma Corrin and French rising star Lucie Zhang have been tapped to lead the Peaches cast for the upcoming Hong Kong-set comedy, which hails from executive producer Cate Blanchett. The project marks The White Girl filmmaker Jenny Suen’s first time directing an English language movie.

“Peaches is a playful exploration of what it means to be a young person in today’s calamitous world,” Suen said in a statement. “Why live your life seriously if it feels like you have no future? Emma Corrin and Lucie Zhang are astonishing performers with both the verve and the vulnerability to bring the Peach spirit to life! I am beyond excited to start shooting with Emma and Lucie, and ever grateful for my collaboration with Coco Francini, Cate Blanchett, and Andrew Upton at Dirty Films.”

What is Peaches about?

Peaches is based on Vera Chitylova’s Czech New Wave comedy Daisies from 1966. The film will see Corrin and Zhang playing best friends who deceive wealthy men. It will be produced by Coco Francini (Fingernails), with Blanchett and Andrew Upton executive producing under their Dirty Films banner.

“Set in contemporary Hong Kong, story follows two spoiled best friends who scam sugar daddies for a living,” reads the synopsis. “When they discover a Hermes Birkin bag they were gifted is a fake, their “boyfriends” and crimes catch up with them.”

Corrin is best known for their breakout performance as a young Princess Diana in The Crown Season 4, which won them a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama. They will next be seen in FX’s A Murder at the End of the World series and in the highly-anticipated Deadpool 3 movie. Meanwhile, Zhang gained recognition for a her critically-acclaimed performance in 2021’s Paris, 13 District, which served as her feature-length acting debut. Her role as Émilie Wong earned her a César Awards nomination for Most Promising Actress.
