What is Cabinet of Curiosities Season 1 about?

Cabinet of Curiosities is a horror anthology series, tackling all sorts of different themes from greed and corruption to vanity and loss. All of these emotions are woven across stylistically chapters with varying degrees of horror. Some work as more allegorical tales, like an hour long chapter that looks at beauty standards for women and the fear of being abandoned. Another episode is much more interested in a claustrophobic venture into the dark underground caverns of a graveyard, inhabited by a plague of rats.

Each chapter works to tell a very simple but ambiguous story and almost all of these end on some sort of cliffhanger. This actually serves the narrative incredibly well and promotes a lot of people to discuss this with their friends and loved ones, coming to different conclusions over what the tale is about or what sort of message they’re trying to tell.

Has Cabinet of Curiosities been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Cabinet of Curiosities has not been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Cabinet of Curiosities has had a really good reaction from audiences and critics, with many pointing out some really solid chapters and a good variety of horror on offer. The series has been stylishly developed, and there’s a real Alfred Hitchcockian feel to a lot of this.

Given the way this show is set up, given its anthological nature, we predict that this will be renewed for a second season. This is the perfect sort of show to binge through and there’s such much more scope for a season to grow into.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, there’s a very good case for another season to follow.

If this is renewed, expect even more terrifying and spine-chilling tales to follow, with Guillermo Del Toro lending his voice to introducing each chapter. It’s the perfect anthology to shine a spotlight on different Directors too and given how creative the horror field is, Cabinet of Curiosities feels like a great platform to showcase that.
