A Nigerian man simply identified as Sunday has been discharged and acquitted by a court in Lagos state after he was arrested and arraigned over the loss of a phone he was helping the owner charge.

A non-governmental organization, Headfort Foundation, that helped secure his freedom said Sunday was visiting the University of Lagos where one of his friends is a student. The foundation said Sunday was charging his phone when a certain young man approached him and asked to also use his charger since it had two spots. It turned out that while charging, Sunday stepped out to use the restroom and in the process, the man’s phone was stolen. He was accused of stealing, arrested and then arraigned in court. He was granted bail but couldn’t fulfill his bail condition. After months of staying in custody, his case was discharged and acquitted by the court as the witness later informed the court that the phone in question was later found.
