Charles Idahosa, a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that certain members have intentions to sabotage and destroy the party in Edo state.

Idahosa spoke on Tuesday during a meeting with Dan Orbih, national vice-chairman (south-south) of the party in Abuja.

The PDP in Edo is embroiled in a crisis ahead of the governorship election in the state in September.

On Sunday, the PDP conducted a congress to select delegates that would participate in the party’s February 22 governorship primary.

Before the congress, Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, who was appointed as the chairman of the committee in charge of the election, rejected the appointment.

Makinde said the list of electoral officers for the election contained people from Delta state and officials of the Edo state government.

Nine out of the 11 PDP governorship aspirants, including Philip Shaibu, deputy governor of the state, boycotted the exercise.

Idahosa alleged that members of the party from the north are “acting as mercenaries bent on selling the soul of the party in Edo to the highest bidder”.

“I want to make a prediction and I am directing this to our national vice-chairman to carry it to the NWC,”
 he said.

“The people who are doing whatever they are doing are from Yobe, Sokoto — all northern states — will collect what they want to collect and let all of us die here.

“They don’t care because they are not from here. But I want him to carry this message, that I Charles Idahosa, say if they don’t do the right thing, and correct this anomaly, PDP is dead in Edo.”
