Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger, tried to convince David Alaba to join the Blues last summer.

Alaba opted to leave Bayern Munich on a free transfer at the end of last season and had attracted interest from different top clubs across Europe, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

According to The Telegraph, Rudiger was attempting to persuade Alaba to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

But the Austria international ended up joining Real Madrid and could be lining up alongside Rudiger next season.

Recall that Rudiger is yet to sign a new deal with Chelsea.

The Germany international has drawn the interest of Real Madrid in recent days.

His current contract at Chelsea will expire at the end of the season.

The 28-year-old is reportedly currently receiving a £90,000 per-week salary at Chelsea and wants over £200,000 for him to sign a new deal, but the west London club are only willing to pay the player £140,000.

Chelsea are keen to keep Rudiger and manager, Thomas Tuchel, has also made it clear that he wants the centre-back to remain at Stamford Bridge, but no player is bigger than the club.
