Nicolas Cage has starred in a handful of legendary films, but now the actor has his sights set on the world of musical theater.
Speaking to Empire recently, Cage revealed that he would love to one day star in a musical, something that the actor has surprisingly not yet appeared in. Cage initially didnāt name a specific musical, but when asked if thereās one he thinks heād be good in, he mentioned the incredibly popular Jesus Christ Superstar.
āI havenāt done a musical yet,ā Cage revealed. āIād like to try that. Iām not much of a singer. I did sing okay in Wild At Heart, I thought, but Iāve since blown my voice out singing āPurple Rainā incorrectly in karaoke bars. ā¦ I think Iād make a good Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar.ā
Originally released in 1970 as a concept album, Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The play tells the story of the Passion of Jesus Christ, told through the lens of Judas. Since its release, the album and play have become staples in the musical theater world, with the play becoming one of the longest-running productions in Londonās West End ever.
