History will be made today in the garden city of Port Harcourt when Youth and Sports Development Minister, Sunday Dare, commissions the Real Madrid Academy in the Rivers State capital.
According to officials of the academy, the school is free to all Rivers State indigenes, who will constitute 70 percent of the students, while 30 per cent will be open to trainee-footballers from other states across the country.
The academy, which is a partnership with Real Madrid Football Club of Spain, is aimed at nurturing future stars from ages five to 17, who will combine football with academics.
Real Madrid signed an agreement with the Rivers State government to provide technical assistance to the academy. The Spanish giants gave the franchise to Rivers State in 2019.
