Security experts have decried the spate of insecurity in the country.

While speaking at a webinar organised by Background Check International (BCI), with the theme: Curbing Insecurity in Nigeria: ā€œThe role of background check,ā€ they also proffered solutions to effectively tackle the menace.

Speakers at the event include former Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade; Chief Operating Officer, Academy Halogen, Dr. Adewale Adeagbo; Managing Director, Background Check International, Mr. Kola Olugbodi; Founder, Nanny Academy, Mrs. Amara Agbim and President, Neeyamo Inc., United States of America (USA), Mr. Vivek Khana.

Olugbodi harped on data harmonisation by all security agencies, adding that proper checks should be conducted on individuals.

He asserted that background check should serve as the first line of security to address security challenges, advising Nigerians to appreciate the role played by background check in curbing insecurity and crimes in the country.

Olukolade said background check could give insight and provide information about the security personnel manning the nationā€™s security apparatus.

He said background check was key to obtaining information about individualsā€™ integrity, as well as profiling to verify their records and personalities.

Adeagbo advocated predictive, preventive and responsive strategies to curb insecurity. He stressed the need to gather data, which can boost intelligence on insecurity.

Also, Agbim said there should be proper risk assessment of the staff being employed, as well as proper scrutiny of staff and validation of staff identity.

On his part, Khana said adequate information about security personnel was important, as well as verifying such information.
