Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the 14th Emir of Kano, has charged Nigerian youths to keep holding public officials accountable in order to salvage their future.

“As citizens of this country, the future is in our hands; if care is not taken, there will be no country for the youths with the way this country is heading,” Mr Sanusi said.

“Ask questions, clarify issues, don’t sweep issues under the carpet.”

The outspoken former Central Bank governor pointed out that he often speaks out against government policies he perceived as bad after conferring with concerned officials in private.

“If the ministers, the commissioners, the governors and the local government chairmen did their jobs as they should, Nigeria will be better for it,” he said.

On Sunday, a play depicting the life and times of Mr Sanusi was staged in Lagos.

Mr Sanusi said he was “glad that they told my story in the most captivating way with the basic facts.”

The play was written by Ahmed Yerima, a professor of Drama at the Redeemer University, Ede, and produced by Joseph Edgar, Executive Chairman, Duke of Somolu Productions.
