The Labour Party presidential candidate on Wednesday visited Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti following claims his supporters threatened to attack the musical legend.

“My own dear brother Femi, I saw what he tweeted and I said, no, that is not what the society needs,” Mr Obi said in a short video that appeared to have been shot at Femi’s residence.

“We need a campaign based on issues that affect Nigeria. That is what I came here to do,” Mr Obi said.

Social media was awash last week after Femi expressed his reservation over the presidential ambition of Mr Obi and described his supporters who tag themselves ‘Obidients’ as “zombies”, during a live performance at the Afrikan Shrine.

He later issued a rebuttal to say he did not mean to insult Mr Obi’s fans but he was “too angry” with the Nigerian situation to be “Obidient”.

The rebuttal notwithstanding, many Obidients took exception to his views and castigated him vigorously online.

Femi in another video later claimed that his life and that of his family was being threatened by an unknown person who also vowed to burn the Shrine.

Mr Obi has often distanced his 2023 presidential campaign and supporters from violence and has attributed online bullying to fifth columnists sponsored by opposition to taint him.
