He said his heart’s desire is for girls from the state to get formal education till they become successful professionals in future.

The traditional ruler said his resolve to see more girls in school fuelled necessitated campaigns for the enrollment of more girls in schools across the state.

Umar said he and his council members ensure they get reports from schools in the emirate; monitor how far girls stay in school and identify parents whose girls may not be regular in schools.

He said when such information is gathered, a follow-up is made on those found wanting to ensure that girls’ education go without hitches.

The emir, however, commended the various interventions by Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) being implemented through UNICEF in schools in the state.

He noted that the FCDO’s intervention through UNICEF, especially through the Girls Education Project 3 (GEP 3) has seen several girls enroll into public schools in the zone.

According to reports, UNICEF through the GEP 3 project has returned more than 300,000 girls to schools across participating council areas of the state.

The emir said, “We at the Daura Emirate Council indeed appreciate efforts of UNICEF and FCDO in the provision of various interventions for schools in the council and in Katsina state generally.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that more of our girls are enrolled in schools. Not only that, we ensure that they stay to complete their education. It will be my pride to see more girls becoming successful professionals in future.

He assured that the emirate would continue to partner with FCDO, through UNICEF, so that more out-of-school children would get the opportunity to acquire formal education.
