The District Head of Igu, Bwari, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Chief Tanzako Solomon Igu, has commended a philanthropist, Mrs. Ifeoma Abam, for donating relief items towards ameliorating the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the community.
Igu, who received the items comprising foodstuffs, facemasks and hand sanitisers, among others, in his palace, said the items would go a long in cushioning the sufferings the people.
He said since the outbreak of the virus, the villagers have suffered untold hardship as their means of livelihood have been greatly hampered.
According to him, being an agrarian community, their inability to sell their agricultural commodities to wholesalers who used to buy from them meant loss of income to most families.
He assured that the items would be judiciously distributed to households in the community.
The donor, Abam, who was represented by Chief Auta Markus during the presentation, said the choice of the village was because of its remoteness from the Abuja city centre, noting that the donation was her own way of serving humanity.
“Although this may be like a drop in the ocean, I believe that it will, at least, boost their morale that they are thought of at a time like this,” Abam said.
