Amid pressure, police break silence on killing of seven officers in Delta

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Uwem Akpan, Wednesday broke his silence on the alleged killing of seven officers believed to be from his command two weeks ago in Ughelli, Delta State, insisting that none of his personnel was missing.

The late cops were murdered in connection with an alleged robbery in the town during a gun battle with operatives of the Delta State Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), had on Tuesday, threatened legal action against the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the police hierarchy over the matter.

The body, which communicated its position via the state chairman, Comrade Morris Alagoa, in Yenagoa, had also called for an investigation into the incident.

But speaking in an interview at the police headquarters in Yenagoa, yesterday, the CP pledged: “We are going to put our acts together to get the real truth of the matter. I can promise you that soonest you will hear from the police.”
