French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday lashed out at Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro — who supported a weekend Facebook post that implied his wife was more attractive than Marcron’s.
“He has made some extraordinarily rude comments about my wife,” Macron said at a G7 summit press conference, according to The Guardian. “What can I say? It’s sad. It’s sad for him firstly, and for Brazilians.”
Bolsonaro over the weekend appeared to agree with a post on the social media site by a supporter who shared an unflattering photo of Macron’s wife, Brigitte, 65, with the caption, “Now you understand why Macron is persecuting Bolsonaro?”
The far-right Brazilian leader chimed in, commenting, “Do not humiliate the guy, ha ha,” the report said.
Bolsonaro’s wife, Michelle, is 28 years younger than Brigitte.
On Monday, Macron added, “I think Brazilian women will probably be ashamed to read that from their president.”
“And as I feel friendship and respect towards the Brazilian people, I hope that they will very soon have a president who behaves in the right way.”

The rift comes amid already tense diplomatic relations between the two nations over the handling of fires that are ravaging Brazil’s Amazon rainforest.
“Our house is burning. Literally. The Amazon rain forest — the lungs which produces 20% of our planet’s oxygen — is on fire,” Macron tweeted Thursday.
Bolsonaro ripped the international outrage as symptomatic of a modern-day “colonialist mentality.”
