Antoine Griezmann Reveals What He Copied From Lionel Messi

Antoine Griezmann admitted that he has been learning from Lionel Messi, after he opened his goalscoring account for Barcelona against Real Betis.

The French forward scored his first two goals for Barcelona on Sunday night.

Barca defeated Real Betis 5-2 at the Nou Camp to properly kick-start their La Liga campaign, after last week’s defeat to Athletic Bilbao.

Watched on by injured strikers Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Griezmann put in a stunning display on his first outing at the Nou Camp as a Barca player.

The Frenchman looked worth every penny of his £108million transfer fee as he opened the scoring for the home side after Nabil Fakir gave the visitors an early lead.

Griezmann’s first, a volley from close range after a Sergi Roberto cross, levelled up the game just before half-time, but it was his second that got the crowd on their feet.

Just five minutes into the second half, the Forward picked up the ball on the right-hand-side of the penalty area, before lashing a shot into the far corner from his favoured left foot.

The finish was typical of that of his strike partner Messi, and afterwards Griezmann admitted that was no coincidence.

“Yes, I saw Leo do it in training and I copied him,” he told reporters.

Griezmann celebrated by running into the corner of the ground and getting able and red glitter poured into his hands, before throwing it over his head in dramatic style.

The forward, who is a big basketball fan, got the move from Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

“The celebration? I liked what LeBron [James] did and tried to copy him,” he joked.

Barcelona were heavily criticised after last week’s defeat, and Griezmann insisted that he and his team-mates were keen to move on quickly.

“After the defeat there were a lot of comments; we had to work this week,” he continued.

“We woke up after their goal and in the end we played well, with a lot of chances. We enjoyed ourselves and we hope it’s always like that.

”We really wanted to play again after Bilbao; we improved but there are still details to work on.”
